The groundbreaking agreement will see GladAfrica take up the role of Title Sponsor for South Africa’s second-tier professional football league, the National First Division. The league will officially be named GladAfrica Championship for the duration of the partnership.
In announcing the new partnership, PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza said the league was delighted to be partnering with a South African, black-owned organization such as GladAfrica. “We are naturally pleased and appreciate GladAfrica’s visionary leadership’s recognition of the strategic fit in anchoring a developmental football property that the National First Division is. GladAfrica is in the built environment business. These are Engineers, Project Managers and Environment Experts that understand that sound foundations and particular attention to sustainability are indispensable for the future. The National First Division matches and delivers the build and sustainability offering that GladAfrica delivers to our nation,” said Dr Khoza.
GladAfrica Group Executive Chairman Mr. Noel Mashaba says the opportunity to work with the Premier Soccer League couldn’t have come at a better time. “We have grown to relish a good challenge and taking on complex opportunities as a business. We have seen value in progressive partnerships, a key driving factor behind our success. This partnership is yet another milestone in the journey of building a formidable African business,” says Mr. Mashaba.
GladAfrica is not new to collaborations with major sporting titles. The company is currently in its seventh year of a sponsorship partnership with Africa’s Major Golf Title, the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Alongside title sponsors Nedbank, GladAfrica together with colossal premium global brands such as Rolex and Emirates are part of the key sponsors of the prestigious golf tournament that takes place in the summer of every year in Sun City, North West.
The conclusion of this new partnership with the PSL gives GladAfrica an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to society through sport development. “The GladAfrica Championship is a direct feeder of teams and players to the top-flight league. This is the foundation which prepares SA football’s future stars and legends. We are elated to be part of grassroots football development,” concludes Mr. Mashaba.
Through GladAfrica Foundation, the partnership with the PSL will also explore various means of uplifting impoverished communities in a quest to eradicate poverty. GladAfrica Foundation is an education focused Non- Profit Organization which offers financial and other related support to students in need. In sport, the Foundation has been working with an amateur football club, Apollo Rangers, in Clara village in Bushbuckridge, providing material support for the team.
