Replacing of 50 schools in the Eastern Cape constructed with inappropriate materials, (e.g. mud schools) with new schools that meet the Department of Basic Education’s specified levels of functionality. The project includes the relevant environmental aspects of the initiative.
Scope:
Identification of environmental aspects and issues to be managed
during the design and construction stages; drafting and implementing
an environmental management programme for each site; and serving
as the environmental control officer (compliance monitoring) during
the construction. Occupational health and safety services entail the identification of safety hazards during the planning and design stages; risk assessments; and the development of safety specifications for the tender documentation. Safety audits and monitoring will be carried out during construction.
