    Thaba Ya Batswana Eco-Tourism (Pty) Limited (TYB) has proposed a unique mixed-use development, to be known as Stone River’s Arch (SRA), on an 89-hectare site in the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve area. The plan is to incorporate a regional mixed-use node with retail, office, residential and tourism facilities, integrated seamlessly with the surrounding natural environment, which is a key asset in the area.

    Appointed to undertake the scoping/ EIA for SRA and to assist TYB with the water-use licence application.
    In addition, the scope of work includes a range of environmental advisory services, such as providing environmental architectural guidelines, green building guidelines and biodiversity guidelines, which are designed to assist the developer in implementing actions and managing the development during and after construction.

    To manage the design and construction of the Leuven Terminals refraction and storage facility, located on a five-hectare site at the junction of the N14 towards Ventersdorp and R24 from Krugersdorp, adjacent to the Transnet terminals. The facility was a 40 000 000 litre storage plant in the first phase. In the second phase, refractionation unit was constructed for the separation of various products such as diesel, petrol and Jet A-1 fuel.

    Identification of environmental aspects and issues to be managed
    during the design and construction stages; drafting and implementing
    an environmental management programme for each site; and serving
    as the environmental control officer (compliance monitoring) during
    the construction. Occupational health and safety services entail the identification of safety hazards during the planning and design stages; risk assessments; and the development of safety specifications for the tender documentation. Safety audits and monitoring will be carried out during construction.

    Phase II includes several work packages, with bulk power supply and telecommunications, roads, bridges, two diversion tunnels from the main Polihali Dam, the project housing and associated infrastructure, the North East Access Road, the Polihali Western Access Roads and the Northern Access Road. Construction of
    the Polihali Dam and related infrastructure will guarantee the desired level of water availability
    in Gauteng and the Vaal River
    water supply region in the most cost-effective manner. The project provides for the transfer of 780,000 million litres of water as well as electricity supply to towns and villages in Lesotho (through the Lesotho Electricity Company).

Upgrading of Paterson Wastewater Treatment Works

  • Purpose

    Sunday’s River Valley Local Municipality requires normal civil engineering services and additional studies for the upgrading of the Paterson wastewater treatment works (PWWTW), following an assessment which investigated different treatment processes and upgrading alternatives.
    A municipal infrastructure grant (MIG) technical report and business plan, which motivated the upgrading of the PWWTW and an extension of the current oxidation ponds system, was prepared and approved.
  • Scope

    Upgrading of the PWWTW to a future capacity of 1,030 cubic metres
    per day required the undertaking of a scoping environmental impact assessment (EIA) process, and assisted with the waste management licence and water-use licence applications. The aim was to ensure that the plant ultimately attains the Green Drop standard.on.

Proclamation of two municipal nature reserves: Klipriviersberg and Kloofendal

    Environmental advisory and conservation planning services for
    the Department of Environment and Infrastructure Services in the proclamation of the Klipriviersberg and Kloofendal Nature Reserves, in accordance with the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act 57 of 2003.
  • Scope

    The scope of services include the compilation of management plans
    for both nature reserves, and ensuring that all legal aspects of the proclamation process are adhered to, in consultation with the competent authorities. The project entailed, among other tasks, a landownership audit, the preparation of proclamation diagrams (to be approved by the Surveyor General), public participation and key stakeholder consultation.
